A New Day
For the longest, I have been ready for an African-American leader to shake the foundation of this nation. From childhood, I loathed the notion of bigotry, and argued with anyone who dared speak ill of another person based on race. It was, and is, a deal-breaker for me. I once went a year without speaking to my grandmother, because she refused to respect my feelings about the subject. The respect of my family soon followed. For years, I have secretly, and at times publicly despised my fellow Americans because of their inability to get with the program. Now, as I watch the votes of my fellow Americans roll in, my faith in my fellow man is being renewed...state, by state. And finally, for weeks now, I have been attempting to engage citizens in political discussion, and declaring that an Obama presidency would initiate a shift in thought; not only here, but abroad. And now that it is here...and happening....I am profoundly moved. The election of Barack Obama as the president of the United States speaks volumes about our nation; and should furthermore demand the respect of the world. This is perhaps the most important political event in American history. God Bless the Obama family, and God Bless America!
